The classic mural with watercolor and ink on rice paper or silk is an ancient art form and this tradition is back in high regard in today's China. Zheng Xilin (1946) is one of the most famous masters in the field of traditional Chinese scroll painting and calligraphy. In addition, he has developed in the last ten years as a specialist in the field of Tibetan Buddhist thangkas. In the context of 40 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and the People's Republic of China, the Geelvinck shows in collaboration with The Silk Road Ecological Culture Committee in Beijing and with the support of the Association of Netherlands - China (VNC) works of this master.
Zheng Xilin has gained the traditional technique of scroll painting in his famous teachers Fan Zen and prof. Jiang Zhaohe at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. The sophisticated technique of scroll paintings is very refined and is based on a long tradition. His remarkable work - the scroll paintings often have a monumental dimension - is in various collections and has been exhibited among others in the United Nations headquarters in New York. Recently, there was also seen a retrospective in Berlin. This is the first exhibition of work by Zheng Xilin in the Netherlands.
Besides scroll painting, Zheng Xilin has in the past ten years specializing on Tibetan Buddhism and making thangkas, the traditional Tibetan Buddhist religious scenes painted on a banner or role. He uses to bring to an age-old technique of gold leaf. Zheng Xilin thangkas are in Buddhist temples in Tibet, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and China. Zheng Xilin is the first Han Chinese, which has received international acclaim and recognition in this specific field.

Zheng Xilin is - often as a board member - associated with various organizations that are committed to classical painting and calligraphy, as the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Research Centre, the Chinese Arts and Crafts Association, the Institute of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, the Huai Su Painting and Calligraphy Institute, the International Artists Association and the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Association.
One of the most remarkable objects that will be on display in the exhibition, is a particularly precious and exceptional - 12 meters - long thangka with gold leaf. This thangka is June 26 transferred to the He Hua Temple on the beachfront.
