John Wong 黃約翰(翰癡)
b. 1 9 5 1 ( Hong Kong )
John Wong was born in Hong Kong in 1951. He has learned Chinese art since 1985 from Ho Choi On, Hung Hoi, Wong Ling Yu, Chui Tsz Hung, Wong Hao Kwai, Fung Wing Kei, and Mr. Chan Man Kit. John also studied Modern Ink Painting Programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
John realized his dream by joining the Royal Navy, he worked on HMS Forth, 845 Naval Air Squadron, HMS Bulwark, HMS Ablion, and survey ships that brought him to many major cities and exotic islands around the world. The places that deeply impressed him included: Seychelles, Fiji Islands, St. Helena, Mauritius, Malta, West Indies, Mombasa, Venice, America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the UK, etc. The life on board allowed him to witness the ocean in the middle of the night with total darkness. He enjoyed quietly lying on the highest deck alone to watch the glimpses of millions of stars, hearing the sound of wind and waves, being himself as small dust amidst the universe! During his five-and-a-half years of service, he has gained deep affection for the ocean which inspired his art!
In 2021, his work was selected for Malaysia International Juried Art Competition, Figural, and Floral painting category. And London Art Biennale. In 2020, his work was selected in Ink Global 2020 showcases the world's 500 best ink paintings. Beijing International Art Biennale (Anti-epidemic works), Nominated for Asia Art Award Grand Prix, Soul, Korea 2020, Malaysia International Juried Art Competition, Landscape painting category awarded with Excellent. He is the founding chairman of Thinkers, executive committee member of Art Image Society and Art Link Club, member of Hong Kong Mei Xie and Hong Kong Modern Ink Painting Society.
