Hyun Jun YANG

borned in  Busan, South Korea in February 19, 1980.

 

Hyun Jun YANG borned in  Busan, South Korea in 1980. He graduated with Korean Art Painting at Busan Silla University in 1996. He started his painting since childhood and keep continuing until now. Hyun Jun uses  traditional Korean paper called Hanji. He draws on Hanji with gouache many times, which makes the bottom color emerge. The repetitive vertical brush touches doesn’t exist in reality, which is an image. It represents old films or distorted images of the reality. And the runny nose is a symbol of childhood with epoxy and looks like kind of sculpture.

Hyun Jun have no heartrending emotions and memories toward his father of his childhood. His childhood is rubbed in his works. But only maternal love and yearning toward his mother are melted harmonized with the way his life goes.

One of the keynotes of Hyun Jun's artworks is ‘humanism,’ his artwork is based on it and the theme is family. Since 2013, that ‘humanism’ has been appearing as the ceaseless subject of him.

The family which the artist expressed in his work is a reliable shield and at the same time a place to find peace with his mother as central figure. One of the subjective characteristic in his work is showing the image of family with mother as material. A girl is representing his mother and an animal with her is a self-reflection.

Both of the girl and the animal are at the imaginary world. The artist expressed his life philosophy about life. Family is taking care if him, its always somebody to be with him and he is not alone.When the time is hard, the family community is turned to be a strong fence and, when the time is settled, it turned to be a doubtlessly peaceful nest.

나의 작업의 방향은 유년 시절에서 출발하여 지금의 나의 모습으로 이어지고 있다. 작품에 나타난 나의 유년시절은 아버지의 대한 애틋한 감정과 기억은 없다. 오직 어머니에 대한 모정과 동경들이 고스란히 나의 삶 속의 모습과 더불어 녹아있다.

이런 나의 작업은 휴머니즘을 기조로 하고 있으며 그 휴머니즘은 가족이란 매개체로 다시 생성되어 2013년부터 꾸준한 주제로 일관되어 나타난다.

그 가족은 어머니를 중심으로 하여 험난한 시대를 살아가는 든든한 방패이자 휴식의 공간으로써의 안식처가 된다.

지금의 내가 아닌, 우리가 어머니의 모습과 다르게 살수 있었던 것은 어머니의 보호와 관심, 희생으로써 만들어 졌다고 생각한다

나의 작업에 있어서 근본적인 뿌리는 인간주의 즉, 휴머니즘으로 그 정신에서 파생되어서 작품에 나타나는 이미지가 바로 가족이란 테마구성이다.

작품에 나타나는 주제적 특징 중에 하나는 어머니란 소재를 통해서 가족이란 이미지가 등장한다는 것인데 그 중에서도 소녀는 어머니를 표현한 것이고 같이 등장하는 동물은 본인의 모습을 표현 한 것이다

어머니의 어릴 적 모습을 하고 있는 소녀와 동물로 변한 나와 함께 있는 것은 현실에 있을 수 없는 가상의 공간이면서 나의 어릴 적 환경을 뜻하며 나를 보호해 주는 가족의 의미가 표현된 것이다. 그리고 이 저변에 휴머니즘을 기반으로 세상을 홀로 살아가는 것 같으면서도 항상 누군가를 의지하고 어우러져 살아가는 것이 인생이라는 철학을 나타내고 싶었으며 그 인생을 살아가는데 가족이라는 공동체는 험난하고 힘든 세상살이에서 든든한 울타리가 되어 주기도 하고 휴식공간이 되기도 한다는 가족의 소중함을 그렸다.
